Hit the Road and Visit Two Fantastic Southern Colorado Ski Resorts + Soak in the Hot Springs

This winter if you want to enjoy a great winter road trip in search of awesome skiing as well as plenty of other fun, take a trip between Wolf Creek Ski Area in Colorado to the Durango Mountain Resort in Colorado, whose ski area is known as Purgatory. During this trip you will pass between two of Colorado's great ski areas, as well as visit the hot springs in Pagosa Springs and more.

Colorado is an excellent ski destination. It is known for its world-class resorts, amazing powder and lots of sunshine. Wolf Creek Ski Area is one of the oldest ski resorts in Colorado. It recently celebrated 70 years.. This resort actually gets more snow each year than any other resort in Colorado. Located in the San Juan Mountains, removed from many other ski resorts in the state, Wolf Creek Ski Area is know for its amazing powder and blazing sunshine. Wolf Creek is a high alpine ski area, the base has an elevation of 10,300 feet, and the summit is at an elevation of 11,900 feet.

After enjoying all that Wolf Creek Ski Area has to offer travelers can move on to Pagosa Springs. This area is one of the great camping and recreation destinations in Colorado. It is located within the San Juan National Forest, and adjacent to the Weminuche Wilderness, the largest contiguous wilderness in the United States. The national forest provides an amazing range of year-round recreation, including winter camping for those willing to brave the cold.

Pagosa Springs has the added feature of having some fantastic natural hot springs. The high mineral content of the hot springs, gives it the strong smell, and is also believed to have medicinal properties. Today visitors can enjoy the hot springs at the three resorts and spas in the city. The Great Pagosa Hot Springs is located behind the Springs Resort. Visitors can view the actual hot springs, but the natural temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit makes it much to hot to actually use.

Visitors can experience the waters of the hot springs at the Springs Resort, which has many pools, both mineral and non-mineral for all visitors. The newest resort in Pagosa Springs is the Overlook Mineral Springs Spa, which has amazing views from the rooftop tubs. The third resort is the Spa @ Pagosa Springs, which has an RV Park as well as rooms and suites. This spa has a large pool filled with the hot mineral waters of the springs, which is a fantastic destination for the whole family to play and enjoy swimming in the hot mineral waters.

The next stop on this winter road trip is Durango and the Durango Mountain Resort. One fun feature of Durango is the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and Museum. The historic train runs along the Animas River. During the winter, the steam locomotive doesn't complete the entire route to Silverton and back, instead the trip stops at the Cascade Station, about half of the regular route. Even in the winter the trip is beautiful, and visitors learn all about the historic steam locomotives and the narrow gauge track at the museum.

Durango also features the Durango Mountain Resort, which is another of Colorado's top rated ski areas. The ski area at Durango Mountain Resort is known as Purgatory. This amazing ski area gets an average annual snowfall of 260 inches. The summit elevation is 10,822 feet, with a vertical drop of 2,029 feet. Purgatory has 85 runs serviced by 10 lifts over a total of 1,325 skiable acres. Visitors to purgatory can also enjoy the three terrain parks.

Colorado is filled with amazing sights and destinations. Travelers will love exploring the many world-class ski resorts.
